Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah may be looking at a possible future exit from the Red Devils, even as early as January.
Back in 2016 under Louis van Gaal, Timothy Fosu-Mensah would burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old. The Dutchman oozed class from minute one, playing an important role in the end to the Red Devils’ season.
Unfortunately, that’d be as good as it’d get for Fosu-Mensah, who’d suffer greatly when Jose Mourinho walked through the Old Trafford entrance doors.
Fosu-Mensah would be frozen out, before a couple of loan moves to Crystal Palace and Fulham would be sanctioned. He’d show his class during both. Now, he’s back at the Theatre of Dreams.
The defender would get the chance to play a handful of United games last season, playing pretty steadily in those games.
However, it’s now thought he’s ‘considering’ his future at the club, according to the Manchester Evening News.
hat’s despite the fact the 22-year-old would start United’s opening game of the season against Crystal Palace. He’s only made one substitute appearance since.
First and foremost, it’s a testament to Fosu-Mensah’s attitude that he went three years in between United appearances, before forcing his way back into the mix last term.
That said, he was never going to be a long-term fixture of this squad, even despite the fact that United triggered a one-year extension clause in his contract back in April.
Sure, we’re talking about someone who could make an impact in the Premier League. However, he’s just not good enough to be a regular starter at United – particularly at full-back where he’s very limited in an attacking capacity.
You’d fancy his chances at a mid-level club playing at centre-half, but it’s all about staying fit.
The MEN article does state that he’s considering his future, while they hint at a possible move away from Old Trafford in January.
In our opinion, that’d make perfect sense for all parties. Hopefully, the right club comes in for Fosu-Mensah, allowing him to leave his injury hell behind and focus solely on playing football.
