Harry Maguire picked up a knock on international duty and could miss Saturday’s trip to Newcastle.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tells MUTV the centre-back sustained a knock before he got sent off playing for England on Wednesday night.

It’s sounds like it will be touch-and-go for Maguire, who has had a miserable start to the season, with former United defender Rio Ferdinand urging Solskjaer to rest his captain.

“Harry seemed to pick up a little knock just before he got sent off,” Solskjaer said. “So we’re having a look at him today to see how he is.

“You never know [how players are injury wise] until they get back and we have had a look at them. I think, and we hope, everyone has come through okay. Of course, Alex has travelled all around the world. He flew overnight and got here on Thursday.”

Injury or no injury, Maguire’s poor form is a huge concern. And fixing it should be on top of Solskjaer’s to-do list.

He is expected to lead from the back but is really struggling at the moment. Perhaps taking him out of the firing line is the way forward for this weekend at least?

“Football is very very… you’re in the highlights all the time and when Harry is part of the England team which beats No.1 ranked Belgium it’s a normal day and you get the headlines when you get a sending off, that’s just football, so many ups and downs, have to deal with it,” Solskjaer told the press, as per Manchester Evening News.

“Harry has got great resilience, knows he’ll bounce back, wants to play and work his way out of the last couple of games he’s been criticised, he picked up a knock just before he came off. We’ll have a look at him today.”

Some United fans have called on Solskjaer to give youngster Teden Mengi a start against Tottenham on Saturday.
