Rangnick started Nemanja Matic and left Paul Pogba on the bench against Everton, who were defeated by Man United at Goodison Park thanks to Anthony Gordon's first-half strike.
After returning from a hamstring injury, Pogba has become a more frequent presence in Rangnick's lineup.
The France international made his Premier League debut in Man United's 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Old Trafford.
Rangnick explained his decision by describing Matic as one of Man United's top No.6s when it comes to possession.
However, During the first half of the game, Pogba came on to replace Fred.
“I had to choose between him [Matic] and Pogba and I decided to start with Nemanja, as a holding six he’s one of the best players we have in possession of the ball so that’s why I went with him,” Ralf Rangnick told Manchester United TV
