Interim manager Ralf Rangnick would have known that despite the Toffees' dismal form, they'd be well prepared for the match when he arrived at Goodison Park to face Frank Lampard's relegation-threatened Everton.

The Red Devils were the clear favorites to take all three points away from Merseyside going into Saturday's early Premier League kick-off, but it was their opponents who upset the odds.

Rangnick, who talked to media after the final whistle (as quoted by BBC Sport) in response to the 20-time league winner's latest defeat, which is their third in five matches across all competitions, said:

"If you don't score a single goal in 95 minutes, we have to be disappointed." We got off to a good start and should have taken advantage of that dominance to create additional opportunities. Then we gave up a deflected shot and seemed to lose our cool.

We had to do something. We needed a goal and we decided to bring Mata and more verticality with Elanga. They were defending with their players in the last 35 minutes.

"We didn’t find the right player at the right moment. We didn’t have enough players in the box when we played crosses.” Ragnick added.
