David de Gea: Untroubled on a night his defence stood stall. Wasn’t forced into a save of note on his return despite late scramble. 6
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: Uneasy at times in first-half but grew into the game and played some purposeful passes. 7
Eric Bailly: Justified selection ahead of Victor Lindelof again with fine showing. Nullified threat of Wood and Barnes and his pace complements Maguire. 8

Harry Maguire: So unfortunate to have his headed goal ruled out after contact with Pieters. Crucially avoided punishment so is available for Anfield showdown on Sunday. Marshalled the defence superbly. 8
Luke Shaw: Fortunate to avoid red card for follow through on Gudmundsson but not otherwise rarely tested. Did enough to retain his spot against Liverpool on Sunday and was brave late on. 6
Nemanja Matic: Stood firm at base of midfield and played key role in United sustaining attacks. Controlled display. 8.
Paul Pogba: Predictably not as potent in withdrawn role in axis with Matic in first-half. Cut loose after the break as he inspired the assertion of dominance. His technique for the winner was delightful. 9
Bruno Fernandes: Started quietly and booked after showing discontent at VAR decisions. Brighter in second-half as he was afforded more space in between the lines. 6
Anthony Martial: Forced fine save from Nick Pope and spurned other chance in first-half. Looked more dangerous providing for Cavani from the left but hesitant with chance to kill the game late on. Possible hamstring injury is a concern. 6
Marcus Rashford: Not on the same wave length as teammates and less comfortable on the right. Not as effective as other forwards and predictably substituted. 5
Edinson Cavani: Found some great positions in the area without decisive touch. Not at ruthless best on his return after three-game ban. 6
