Manchester United are now the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante.
The French midfielder, who has won the Premier League with both Leicester City and Chelsea, has been amongst the most consistent footballers in the country over the last half-decade.
Now, in a story by The Sun, it is said they’re the ‘outright favourites’ to sign the 29-year-old Premier League star, though they face competition.
Apparently, transfer speculation around Kante has intensified over the last few days, while using odds from Betfair, United are the 5/2 favourites to sign Kante. The Sun state that those odds will shrink further as the transfer window draws closer.
United aren’t the only ones in the chase to sign Kante, though, with Real Madrid and Manchester City also keen. They have odds of 4/1 and 6/1 respectively.
First and foremost, it’s worth noting that the odds are controlled by punters’ betting, so the majority seemingly feel that if Kante were to leave Chelsea, Old Trafford would likely be his destination.
But would Kante fit in?
Well, United’s midfield three of Scott McTominay, Fred and Bruno Fernandes has been in incredible form of late. Don’t forget about the likes of Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Nemanja Matic waiting in the wings. It’s the area of the park where United are the most well-stocked.
However, if Kante is actually available, passing up on him could be a mistake. We’re talking about arguably the best midfielder this country has seen over the last half-decade. Sure, he’s past his best but Kante would be a direct upgrade on the aforementioned McTominay.
I’d still doubt Chelsea would want to deal with us, particularly if Madrid’s interest in genuine. Surely they’d prefer to sell abroad as opposed to strengthening a direct rival?
At this stage, I’d take this one with a pinch of salt and see if Chelsea are actually willing to cash in on one of their key players…
