The Ajax manager has cautioned United CEO Richard Arnold that there will be no quick fix and that competing for major prizes under his watch might take several years.

The Dutch professional has agreed to a long-term deal to take over at Old Trafford, and he will begin his stint after his Ajax contract expires at the end of the current season.

United will pay the Eredivisie giants about £2 million in compensation for the 52-year-services, old's though that figure may climb if he brings part of his coaching staff with him to M16.

During an interview in March, the Red Devils were impressed with how he carried himself and laid out his plan.

Along with Ten Hag, football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher, who were both significantly involved in the manager hunt, will be in charge of recruitment.
