Richard Fay of MEN has suggested that Manchester United supremo Ed Woodward would do well to turn his attentions to bringing Son Heung-Min to the club.

The South Korean is amongst the best players in the league and is a bonafide superstar back in his home country.

The 28-year-old has developed into a world-class player at Tottenham Hotspur. He has scored seven goals while assisting three more in just six games for Spurs this season. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Watching from the stands, Woodward would have got a first-hand look at just what Son can do on the pitch. The 28-year-old scored twice and assisted one more as Spurs ran out 6-1 winners at the Theatre of Dreams.

Woodward has been successful in bringing a plethora of commercial deals to the club. However, his record in signing players is far from exemplary.

In Son, he could have the ideal marriage of both aspects of the sport. Not only is Son a dominant force on the pitch but he is also a hugely marketable star.

The player’s soaring popularity in the south of the 38th parallel offers United a massive commercial opportunity to exploit.

It is a position United are used to exploiting. The Red Devils were a popular brand in South Korea during the era of Park Ji-Sing. While we still command a 6.1% market share in the country, it pales in comparison to Tottenham’s 21.4%.

This disparity can be addressed if Son can be convinced to swap white for red. However, as things stand, that would take some doing.
